Hello, my name is Neeve and I am a student with POA Learning, I am also a Citizen Scientist/volunteer and I run CITIZEN SCIENCE IOW Events for community based groups all over the Isle of Wight.
For British Science Week 2020, Rachel Thomson, Downside Community Centre Manager, secured funding from the British Science Association - with sincere thanks to them both.  So Rachel, Dave Logan Regional Manager for POA Learning and I,
are organising a 2 Day Festival of Citizen Science, with interactive workshops, displays and presentations hosted by Pan Together at the Downside Community Centre Pan Newport IOW.

The Dates and Times are:

Friday 6th March 2020 11am - 8pm

Friday 13th March 2020 11am - 8pm  CANCELLED due to flooding

From Earth to the Stars

During the events we will explore interactive displays and presentations, with the aim of inspiring Visitors to become Citizen Scientists and even future Scientists.

The Isle of Wight has a local abundance of science communities, organisations and museums, all bringing science to life in their own special way. We aim to have them all under one roof with interactive displays suitable for all levels of interest and abilities!!

Downside Community Centre is run by a small Island charity, Pan Together.  It is at the heart of Pan, which – according to September 2019’s Indices of Deprivation - is the most disadvantaged area on the Isle of Wight and ranked at 5.8% in the most deprived neighbourhoods in England.  We’re keen to give local residents – young, old and in all their diversity – the chance to get ‘hands-on’ with science, explore their curiosities and try new things we wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to do.

This 2-day FREE event is suitable for all ages, individuals, school groups, or community groups.

THE MISSION

03

We are organising a 2 day event, straddling 2 Fridays: 6th + 13th March 2020, to be held at the Downside Community Centre, Furrlongs, Pan, Newport.

British Science Week 2020 events aim to encourage diverse communities to become 'hands on' and involved in science together.

Although the event is during term time, we are planning to invite surrounding SEN schools to visit the event during the school day to enhance their science study learning at school. We are also exploring the possibility of extending the event into the evening to encourage families and the wider community to visit the interactive activities/presentations together.
